Criminal Record Check / Child Abuse Registry

Criminal Record Check / Child Abuse Registry

Criminal Records Checks (CRC)

•Criminal records checks (CRCs) forms are available at your local RCMP detachment.
•CRCs can only be done in the area that the person applying resides.
•Checks are good for 3 years from date of receipt.

•There is no cost for a person who is requesting a criminal record check for a volunteer position, such as a coach or team manager. However, a volunteer from the Parrsboro Minor Hockey Association is required to bring a letter with them to the RCMP detachment, signed by the Parrsboro Minor Hockey Association president, indicating that they will be volunteering with the association.

•The individual requiring the check must apply in person with 2 pieces of Government issued id and one must be photo, to the local detachment of the RCMP or Town / City Police.
•It is the responsibility of the applicant to notify Hockey Nova Scotia of any change in their Criminal Record check.

•Any volunteer who does not have his / her Criminal Record or Child Abuse Registry check completed and into the office by December 31st of the current hockey season will be immediately suspended. Although Dec. 31 is the cut-off date, as new seasons of hockey unfold the Parrsboro Minor Hockey Association prefers that people get their checks done as soon as they can as the season gets underway.

Child Abuse Registry:

The Department of Community Services has changed the way a child abuse registry check works. The CAR or Child Abuse Registry now works very similar to a Criminal Records Check.
There is NO cost and checks are completed by the individual using form B2 and are handed in to the Minor Hockey Association with a photocopy of ID.

Note: Although it states if you are not working with children under 18 the check does not have to be completed, all MHA's must have all their bench / coaching staff, team managers, etc complete this check.

The Child Abuse Registry forms must be submitted in their original form. Faxes, scans or copies WILL NOT be accepted.

You can download the Child Abuse Registry B2 form on the Hockey Nova Scotia website at: www.hockeynovascotia.ca/hns_11617.html
